In a recent article in Lawyer's USA, Microsoft plans to release a USB-like device that law enforcement officers throughout the country can use to extract forensic computer data.

With little known about the device, there are ethical, privacy and admissibility concerns.

Google's Street View

You are preparing for an upcoming trial and decide that it would be very helpful to have the jury familiar with the landscape where your client’s alleged actions took place. You realize that there is no way the judge will allow the jury to visit the scene. How can you show the scene?

Depending on the location, you may be able to take advantage of Google’s Street View (maps.google.com/help/maps/streetview/). Google’s Street View is a feature of Google Maps that was introduced in May, 2007 featuring at the time 5 US cities. It provides a 360o panoramic street-level view of major metropolitan cities, including Detroit, Ann Arbor and much of Southeast Michigan.

Photographs were taken by a camera mounted on an automobile. Users can virtually walk through neighborhoods while viewing all the surroundings.
